Emma's Story

Writer: Breastfeeding JournalBreastfeeding Journal

My baby girl was born on 05.05.2024 prior to her being here I had said I was going to attempt breast feeding but I also said that I wasn’t going to put any pressure on myself to make it happen. Although I think deep down I was really hoping I could.

I had expressed colostrum from 38 weeks which I am so glad I did as after she arrived for the first 24 hours she was fed colostrum with a syringe as she didn’t want to latch on for anything more than a few seconds.

The midwives at the hospital were amazing and so supportive in trying to get her to latch during this time.

We persevered and eventually she latched properly for the first time and we haven’t looked back.

My partner has been so supportive of our breastfeeding journey which has made it so much easier.

She is now 6 months old and I have exclusively breastfed for the whole time with no plans to stop anytime soon. It has been the most amazing and special journey I even had a sculpture made of is with her feeding so I have something to forever remember this part of our story.
