“3 months” I said. “I just want to get to 3 months” 3 months turned to 6 months, turned to 12 months and now, here we are, 20 months into breastfeeding.
I can’t put into words how special it has been breastfeeding my daughter and I feel so incredibly lucky that it worked for us from day 1. That first feed, lazy days spent on the sofa with her cluster feeding (which felt never-ending but now feels like a lifetime ago) and the nights that felt like we were the only ones in the world awake. All memories I hold in my heart and will forever.
Now she is older, we do get the raised eyebrows, the “you’re STILL feeding her?” and the questions about when we’ll stop. “We’ll stop when we’re ready” is always my response - whenever that may be.
