Milly's Story

Writer: Breastfeeding JournalBreastfeeding Journal

I wanted to share mine and little Caleb’s story. We breastfed from birth I’m also a first time mum. We have faced a lot of challenges but we are still going strong he is now 18 months and thriving. At my six week check up I was nearly admitted with mastitis, then when Caleb was 3 months he got suspected viral meningitis. He was so bad they treated him for bacterial he had to have a lumber puncture, feeding was challenging around his temperature and I was lucky if he fed for 5 minutes. Fast forward to Caleb being six months I got pgp which led to me buldging a disc in my spine when he was 10 months. At the time I should have been on an opiate but due to breastfeeding I was unable to take the correct medication. I continued with breastfeeding as since the meningitis spell Caleb’s immune system needed help and the BF was the best thing for him. I managed to recover from my buldged disc and all the time still feed. Breastfeeding has been our saving grace, we both enjoy it now he’s 19 months on the first he’s thriving and so am I. It’s been my greatest journey even through all the tough times xx
